The Nikon Laser400 features precisely ground and polished lens glass that is multicoated with anti-reflective compounds to improve light transmission, clarity, and color rendition.
It utilizes an eight power monocular with a 20-millimeter objective lens to provide an exit pupil of 2.5mm.
The eyepiece is adjustable, with a range of +/- 2 diopters, and the unit has 10mm of eye relief.
In addition, the Nikon Laser400 has a real angle of view of 6.3 degrees, translating to a wide, 50-degree apparent angle of view and a field of view of 330 feet at 1,000-yards.The new rangefinder has five distinct modes of operation.
First is the standard mode, in which ranging can be undertaken from 10 to 400 yards.
The second mode is >100, in which readings under 100 yards are automatically disregarded.
This mode is useful for ranging objects in the middle of a clearing from the timber surrounding the clearing, for example.
The third mode is the Rain mode, useful in rainy or snowy conditions.
The fourth mode, Reflective, is designed for use against reflective targets, such as a metal building or a snowy roof.
Fifth is the Scan mode, which allows users to rapidly range different targets without needing the system to reset.
Numbers are displayed in a red LCD format.
Nikon's Laser400 is water resistant, measures ranges in yards or meters, and features an automatic power shutoff after the reading has been displayed for eight seconds.
The Laser400 measures 3.7'' x 2.8'' x 1.4'' and weighs 7.0 ounces without battery.
It is powered by one commonly available CR-2 camera battery, and an internal display shows the user how much battery power is remaining.
